How long do Primal Krisp bags last?
Every bag has a Best By date printed on it. Unopened, our chips stay good for at least 6 months from the day they're made. They're shelf-stable, so no fridge or freezer needed — just keep them somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sun and heat.
Wait — no preservatives, but a long shelf life?
Yes. The chips are dehydrated until they're ultra-thin and crispy, and the bags are sealed to keep air and moisture out. That's what keeps them fresh — no additives required. Just meat + salt/spices.
What about after I open a bag?
Once the seal is broken, air gets in and the crunch starts to fade. Reseal the bag tightly and finish it within a few days for the best crunch. (Most bags don't make it that long anyway.)
My beef chips smell a little funky. Are they bad?
Probably not. Beef that's been dehydrated without preservatives has a natural, slightly strong smell when you first open the bag — it's normal and doesn't affect the taste. The signs of a real problem are different: visible mold, an off or sour taste, or a bag that arrived puffed up or with a broken seal. If you see any of those, reach out with a photo and your order number and we'll make it right.
Does heat during shipping hurt them?
In peak summer, a bag sitting on a hot porch can pick up some extra oil on the surface or lose a bit of crunch. It's still safe to eat. Pop the sealed bag in the fridge for an hour to firm it back up. If a bag arrives in rough shape, send us a photo — we've got you.
Can I freeze them?
No need, and we don't recommend it — moisture is the enemy of crunch. Cool, dry, sealed. That's it.
